Hirofumi Hotta of JPRS Appointed Vice Chair of ICANN CSC
- Further Contribution to the Global Internet Community -
Japan Registry Services Co., Ltd. (JPRS: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President Koki Higashida) is pleased to announce that its Senior Executive Vice President Hirofumi Hotta has been appointed as Vice Chair of the ICANN Customer Standing Committee (CSC).
The CSC, established in 2018, is a standing committee within the ICANN community that monitors the domain name related IANA's performance from the customer perspective.
ICANN is a private non-profit organization established in the United States in 1998 to coordinate global resources underpinning the Internet, such as domain names and IP addresses. After ICANN was established, management of Internet resources was operated by ICANN as IANA functions, and the U.S. government continued the stewardship of its functions.
In 2016, the stewardship of the IANA functions, including Internet resources, was transitioned from the U.S. government to the community. As a result, IANA functions were transferred to Public Technical Identifiers (PTI), a subsidiary of ICANN created for this purpose. The CSC audits PTI's execution of IANA functions against 64 criteria, including technical performance set for each customer segment.
Since October 2023, Hirofumi Hotta has been participating in the CSC as an alternate liaison from the Root Server System Advisory Committee (RSSAC), a committee that advises the ICANN Board and community on the operational performance of IANA regarding DNS root zone. Starting from October 2024, he serves as a primary liaison.
During the CSC meeting held at the ICANN82 meeting in March 2025, Rick Wilhelm, CTO of Public Interest Registry (PIR), was appointed as Chair, and Hirofumi Hotta was appointed as Vice Chair.
